"Shopping With Somebody Else’s Credit Card"

This week’s episode begins, in part, in Prescott, Arizona, according to a report from the Associated Press: Daisy is squeezing tomatoes in the produce section of her favorite super market while her purse sleeps soundly behind her in a shopping cart. Ever seen anything like this before?

Elwood takes advantage of the situation. He puts Daisy’s purse in his basket and hides it under a box of cereal and a package of taco chips.

By the time Daisy gets home to report the theft to police and call her credit card company, she learns that somebody has already bought more than $200 worth of DVDs using her credit card.

A few hours later, Daisy is at the customer service desk at her favorite bookstore to report that someone had used her credit card to buy 10 DVDs.

The manager is considering the information Daisy has just given him when a young man—Elwood—steps up to the counter, saying "Excuse me," to Daisy and asks to speak to the manager.

Daisy steps back, gracefully, as Elwood hands the manager 10 unopened DVDs and asks for a refund. The manager looks at Elwood, then glances as Daisy, then looks back at Elwood. The manager’s apparent surprise and confusion is enough to signal Elwood that the manager suspects all is not well.

Elwood turns and runs for the door. Daisy stands there, confused, wondering what this is all about. "I think that’s the man who stole your credit card, ma’am," says the manager.

Police find Daisy’s purse in a nearby dumpster. Two days later Elwood is arrested trying to get $20 "cash back" on Daisy’s cancelled credit card.

Eventually, Daisy’s credit account is restored and all is well. Now, when Daisy shops she holds her purse against her like it’s a newborn baby.
