"Elwood's Terrible Day"

Two mechanics, getting ready to open for business, are sorting out tools on the work bench at The Muffler Shop. According to a Fox News report, a guy named Elwood walks into the shop through one of the open bay doors and announces, "This is a stickup, gimme the money!"

One of the mechanics tells the robber, "We don’t have a key to the register, only the manager does. He ain’t here yet."

Elwood, somewhat confused by this turn of events, tells the mechanic to call him as soon as the manager gets in. "Call you? Call you where?" asks the mechanic. Elwood hands the muffler mechanic a piece of paper with a phone number written on it. "Call me at this number as soon as he gets in," says the robber, then quickly leaves the shop.

As soon as the hold-up guy is out of sight, the mechanic makes two phone calls — one to the cops and one to the manager.

Two plainclothesmen arrive a short time later in an old model pickup truck. They show their badges. The cops tell the mechanics to call the guy’s cell phone and tell him the manager is here and the cash register is open.

Moments later Elwood arrives back at The Muffler Shop, gun in hand, demanding all the money. The undercover cops quickly level their shotguns at the robber and order him to drop the gun. As soon as the gun hits the cement floor both cops know it’s a kids’ toy, made of plastic.

Elwood will very likely do at least seven years in prison for armed robbery, even though the gun was a toy. "Who knew it wasn’t real?" says one of the cops. With further investigation the cops find out the cell phone was stolen earlier in the morning at a nearby Waffle House. That’s one more charge against Elwood.
